Specific COD Skin Function Support is a complete dry diet for dogs requiring nutritional support for atopic dermatitis and flea allergy dermatitis, recovery, cachexia, anorexia, heart failure, skin and coat disorders, inflammatory conditions responsive to high omega-3 intake, and cancer.
This diet contains uniquely high levels of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from fish oil, krill and algae, as well as omega-6 fatty acid GLA from borage oil. These fatty acids influence immune response and inflammatory processes via natural eicosanoid production. In controlled studies, high EPA, DHA and GLA levels improved skin and coat condition in atopic dogs.
The formula includes beta-glucans and elevated levels of zinc, selenium, arginine and omega-3 fatty acids to support immune function. Beta-glucans interact with macrophages and help modulate immune response and cytokine production.
High energy density, high levels of essential nutrients, excellent digestibility and palatability support recovery from illness, surgery, trauma or periods of weakness. The very high omega-3 content may support dogs experiencing weight loss associated with cancer or heart disease. Added L-carnitine and taurine support cardiac muscle function. Moderate sodium helps reduce fluid retention and support normal blood pressure.
The elevated levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, fat, vitamins A and E, B vitamins, high-quality protein, zinc and selenium support healthy skin and coat.
