Veterinary diet for dogs providing nutritional support for heart, kidney and liver disease. Also suitable for dogs with concurrent ingredient or nutrient intolerances due to the use of hydrolysed protein.

Indications

• Heart failure, hypertension, oedema
• Chronic renal insufficiency
• Hepatic insufficiency (except patients with cholestasis)
• Urate, oxalate or cystine urolithiasis
• Chronic renal, cardiac or hepatic insufficiency with concurrent ingredient or nutrient intolerances

Properties and rationale for the composition

• Uniquely high levels of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) derived from fish oil support maintenance of lean body mass and appetite, normal cardiac rhythm, blood pressure and platelet aggregation in dogs with cardiac disease. In dogs with kidney failure, omega-3 fatty acids may help slow disease progression.
• Restricted phosphorus content is essential to reduce hyperphosphataemia and slow the progression of renal insufficiency.
• Reduced protein content combined with protein of high biological value reduces azotaemia in dogs with renal failure and lowers the risk of hyperammonaemia and hepatic encephalopathy in dogs with liver failure, while still supplying sufficient essential amino acids.
• Reduced sodium level helps break the vicious circle of water retention in congestive heart failure, which is important for heart, kidney and liver patients.
• Highly digestible hydrolysed salmon protein reduces the amount of undigested protein in the colon and lowers microbial production of uremic toxins and toxin precursors. It may also help reduce dysbiosis and plasma levels of uremic toxins, supporting slower progression of renal insufficiency. The low allergenicity makes the diet suitable for dogs with concurrent intolerances.
• Fermentable fibres (beet pulp and FOS) and AuraGuard® (natural polyphenols) support a healthy gut microbiome and intestinal barrier integrity, contributing to a healthy gut–kidney axis.
• Exceptional palatability maximises the chance of meeting nutritional requirements, even in dogs with reduced appetite.
• Specially packed under a protective atmosphere to protect the uniquely high levels of EPA and DHA in the product

Not recommended for

• Puppies and pregnant or lactating bitches
• Dogs with a relatively high protein requirement
• Patients with cholestasis (a diet with a reduced fat content is more suitable, such as SPECIFIC™ Digestive Support Low Fat, Weight Reduction or Senior diets)
• Dogs with struvite urolithiasis
• Dogs with hyperlipidaemia or pancreatitis
