Veterinary diet for cats providing nutritional support for renal, cardiac and hepatic disease. Also suitable for cats with concurrent ingredient or nutrient intolerances due to the use of hydrolysed protein.
Indications
- Chronic renal insufficiency
- Hepatic insufficiency (except patients with cholestasis)
- Congestive heart failure, hypertension, oedema
- Urate, oxalate or cystine urolithiasis
- Chronic renal, cardiac or hepatic insufficiency with concurrent ingredient or nutrient intolerances
Properties and rationale for the composition
- High levels of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) may help slow the progression of renal failure. In cats with cardiac disease, EPA and DHA support maintenance of lean body mass, appetite, normal blood pressure and platelet aggregation.
- Restricted phosphorus content is essential to prevent hyperphosphataemia and to slow the progression of kidney insufficiency.
- Reduced protein content combined with protein of high biological value reduces azotaemia in cats with renal failure and lowers the risk of hyperammonaemia and hepatic encephalopathy in cats with liver failure, while still supplying sufficient essential amino acids.
- Reduced sodium level helps break the vicious circle of water retention in congestive heart failure, which is important for kidney, liver and heart patients.
- Highly digestible hydrolysed salmon protein reduces the amount of undigested protein in the colon, thereby lowering microbial production of uremic toxins and toxin precursors. It may also help reduce dysbiosis and plasma levels of uremic toxins, supporting slower progression of renal insufficiency. The low allergenicity provides nutritional support in cats with concurrent intolerances.
- Fermentable fibres (beet pulp and FOS) and AuraGuard® (natural polyphenols) support a healthy gut microbiome and intestinal barrier integrity, contributing to a healthy gut–kidney axis.
- Exceptional palatability maximises the chance of meeting nutritional requirements, even in cats with reduced appetite.
- Specially packed in a protective atmosphere to protect the uniquely high levels of EPA and DHA in the product
Not recommended for
- Kittens
- Pregnant or lactating queens
- Patients with cholestasis (a diet with restricted fat content is more suitable, e.g. SPECIFIC™ FRD/FRW Weight Reduction or SPECIFIC™ FXD Adult)
- Cats with struvite urolithiasis
